.
This room was given its name in 1958 in honor of a long-time adviser to Alpha Chapter,
Col. John T. Chambers, Be-'28, whose many years as an intelligence officer
often brought him to assignments in Washington, DC,
where he would almost always reside at the Delta Phi Epsilon House.
He was in the 1940s and 1950s a trusted counselor to many chapter presidents.

The Penthouse

Top of the staircase to The Penthouse from its 3rd floor doorway

The southwest corner of The Penthouse.
Visible at right is the top of the staircase coming from the doorway on the 3rd floor;
at the left, behind the small wall is the clost,
at the rear of which is an entrance to a four-foot wide crawl space
that runs the entire width of the House
and in which residents can store rarely used belongings.
Next to the base of the bookcase can be seen the chain ladder
that in an emergency would hook onto that window sill
and provide a means of escape down to the roof of the next building.

Panoramic of the east wall of The Penthouse,
showing behind the post on which the mirror hangs
(about a third of the way into this very large room)
the area to the left with the queen-sized bed;
the area in the center with the window overlooking 34th Street
between a secretary and a bureau;
and the area to the right with a recess for a refrigerator,
a refrigerator waiting to go in there,
and part of a table
